To remove mildew from white cotton items such as sheets and T-shirts, mix a box of baking soda in a five-gallon bucket of hot water and soak the items overnight, then wash as usual. Pour the soda water down your kitchen drain, followed by a cup of vinegar, to flush out grease deposits and leave a fresh smell.
