No Gas at the Pumps ... No Power in the Grid

How will we live with no gas at the pump and no power in the grid?

The U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency unveiled on Oct. 15 the 2010 Fuel Economy Guide, which gives consumers information about estimated fuel costs and mileage standards for model year 2010 vehicles.

Each vehicle listing in the Fuel Economy Guide provides an estimated annual fuel cost, calculated based on the vehicle’s miles per gallon rating and national estimates for annual mileage and fuel prices. The online version of the guide allows consumers to input their local gasoline prices and typical driving habits to receive a personalized fuel cost estimate.

Fuel efficiency is important for reducing carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases that contribute to global climate change. Fuel economy leaders for 2010 include a wide range of hybrid models, from compact cars to sport-utility vehicles, as well as the two-seater Smart fortwo. The Fuel Economy Guide continues to be available to mobile users at fueleconomy.gov/m, making it readily accessible from a mobile device, smart phone or personal digital assistant (PDA).
