Straw-clay. Another natural insulation is a material called straw-clay, made by mixing loose straw and a clay slip. Packed into wall forms or ceilings and left to dry, straw-clay creates a thick, insulated wall that is naturally fire resistant and mold and mildew repellent. Its R-value is estimated to be between R-2 to R-3 per inch.
